Proud to announce an epidemiologic study with Prof. Dr. Debing in University Hospital Brussels

This epidemiologic study collects data on the prevalence of, and risk factors associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and carotid artery stenosis (CAS).

The study population exists of a vast sample of men and women of the Brussels capital region, starting at the age of 60.

The study data can provide us with insights on how the Belgian public health policy can be improved concerning these two main vascular clinical entities known for its major morbidity and mortality. Prevention by early detection and elective aneurysm repair could be of major clinical importance. Screening programs already exist in the UK and Sweden. Great to see this happen in Belgium!

According to the European Society for Vascular surgery guidelines on management of atherosclerotic carotid artery disease, about 10-15% of all first-ever stroke patients will experience an unheralded ischemic stroke following a previously untreated significant CAS.

All 60+ Brussels capital region inhabitants can register for a screening.

We are looking forward to the study results!
